Packing may seem like a straightforward and easy activity, but in all fairness, it is a technique that ranges in its level of skill depending upon what is to be packed. One of the main causes of the breakage of fragile items is rushing. Dedicate plenty of time for safe packing of fragile things so that you can ensure no harm comes to them. Be sure to pack at least a day before so that you don’t have to rush on the transportation day.
Use the Right Packing Materials
Using the right packing materials is very essential as they define the fine line between an intact item and a shattered one. Ideal materials that can be utilized for packing fragile items include –
- Moving Boxes
- Loose fill or packing peanuts to fill in the empty spaces and ensure the item doesn’t move inside the box
- Heavy grade paper for a durable wrap
- Polystyrene foams for structured cushioning
- Bubble wrap to use as a shock absorbing wrap
- Original packaging, if the item was bought
Securely Arrange the Contents inside the Box
Using the right materials won’t be enough. A secure and safe arrangement of the items inside the box will also play a significant role in their safety. All the items should be wrapped individually in bubble wrap and heavy grade paper.
For packing items such as plates and trays, make it a point to pad between each of them with crumpled paper. Hollow items such as drinking glasses and vases should have their insides filled with crumpled paper.
Lamps and other similar items should be packed as a whole. Ensure that the bulb and shade are separately packed from the main stand.
Mark the Boxes Clearly
Be sure to mark each box with a “FRAGILE” tag and indicate the top of the box with a “THIS WAY UP” label and an arrow pointing up.
Instruct the Movers Particularly about their Fragility
Even though you put up signs, ensure that you make them know which box contains fragile items so that they can take extra care of them.
